Technique
The same principles apply as with magnetic resonance imaging. With MR arthrography, MRI contrast (dye) called Gadolinium is injected into a joint under either ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance prior to the MRI scan.

Applications
Contrast in the joint enhances the joint structures to better delineate internal joint derangements. Exceptionally detailed images of small structures within a joint such as cartilage are produced.
Patient information
The joint injection is performed under local anaesthetic and patients are advised not to drive after the procedure. The whole procedure including the joint injection (arthrogram) and MRI scan usually takes about an hour.
Our team of musculoskeletal radiologists will send a report back to the referring clinician explaining the imaging findings and any further recommendations.
