Technique
Our specialists perform a wide range of image guided musculoskeletal interventional procedures. We have access to a number of state of the art designated imaging suites with full health & safety compliance.
The image guidance under ultrasound, fluoroscopy or CT ensures safe precise needle placement into the target tissue, avoiding injury to adjacent structures such as blood vessels and nerves.
The most common procedure is corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory) and local anaesthetic injection into a target area such as a painful inflamed joint, bursa or tendon sheath. Joint injection treatments also include injection of hyaluronic acid which mimics the joint’s natural lubricant which is predominantly performed for osteoarthritis.

Applications
We perform many tendon therapies and muscle repair treatments including dry needling, autologous blood injection, platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection and high volume tendon stripping. In view of the specialist nature of this work we are happy to discuss requirements on a case by case basis.
Our team performs other specialist treatments such as barbotage for calcium deposition in tendons, hydrodilatation for frozen shoulder, percutaneous trigger finger pulley release, nerve injections and ablation. We perform complex spinal procedures including vertebroplasty, nerve and facet joint injections (see spinal injections and vertebroplasty).
The radiologists of OMR work in a busy tertiary bone and soft tissue tumour referral centre and have great expertise in bone and soft tissue tumour biopsy, sclerotherapy and radiofrequency ablation of bone tumours (see sclerotherapy of bone lesions and musculoskeletal radiofrequency ablation).
