Technique

The treatment involves multiple (one every few weeks/months) injections of specialised drugs which have been shown to resolve the lesions. Sclerotherapy can be performed as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic with minimal recovery time. For children, it can be done under general anaesthetic as a day case.

The medicine in foam form is injected into the lesion precisely guided with CT or fluoroscopy. After injection of the foam, the openings of the bones are sealed as the needles are removed to minimise any bleeding. Appropriate recovery and post procedural advice is given before discharge from the hospital.
