Dr Raj Chari trained in Liverpool where he won a number of academic prizes. He came to Oxford following Fellowships at McGill University, Montreal, Canada and a short interventional Fellowship in Strasbourg, France. He has obtained additional sub-specialist experience in trauma, sports, orthopaedic, rheumatological, musculoskeletal oncological and spine imaging and intervention.
His specialist interests include sports imaging & intervention. He is a part of the multidisciplinary OXSPORT team. The OXSPORT patients include national and international level elite athletes including runners, rowers, weight lifters, footballers, rugby and cricket players. Dr Chari was a member of the specialist radiologist teams at the 2017 IAAF World Championships, London; 2018 IAAF Indoor World Championships, Birmingham & 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, UK.
Dr Chari has expertise in all aspects of musculoskeletal intervention, including joint/tendon injections, PRP injection, radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy, spinal injections & intervention, and musculoskeletal cancer related biopsies. He holds regular multidisciplinary meetings alongside bone & soft tissue tumour network, OXSPORT group and rheumatology teams of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.
A fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, he is also a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS). He has an MSc in Diagnostic Imaging from Oxford University and a Diploma from the European Society of Skeletal Radiology. Dr Chari’s career has been a good balance between clinical and academic roles. He has shown an immense passion towards research and academic activities.
He has authored and co-authored a number of medical publications and book chapters. He is an invited speaker for a number of national and international conferences every year. He has vast experience of teaching in the UK, Europe, UAE, Canada, India, Egypt, Malawi and South Africa. Dr Chari has won BSSR Travel Scholarship for 2016-17 to France and RCR Travel Fellowship for 2023-25 to Kenya in Africa.

Dr Chari was the organiser of the BSSR 2022 conference in Oxford, it was the first large MSK meeting in the country following the pandemic and successfully attended by the largest number of delegates for a meeting of its kind. He is the organiser of the popular ESSR Sports Imaging Course 2024 in Oxford, the course is being held for the first time in the UK, usually held in continental Europe.
