Soft Tissue Ultrasound
If the patient’s symptoms are localised to a relatively superficial structure, an ultrasound examination is often the best imaging investigation to request.
Typical referrals include for : Rotator cuff Tears and Impingement, Tennis Elbow, focal Wrist, Hand and Ankle problems. Ultrasound is also useful for assessment of ligaments and for the initial assessment of soft tissue lumps. Ultrasound can also be used to guide injection and other therapies. Examples include Subacromial bursa injection, joint inject, shoulder distension for frozen shoulder, ganglion aspiration, Morton’s neuroma injection
If the patient’s symptoms are more deeply located, intra-articular or diffuse than MRI is recommended.
